The Chaltu Gifawesen Foundation (CGF) was established on the tenth anniversary of Dr. Gifawesen’s death in 2005.
The Chaltu Gifawesen Foundation aims to:
(a) motivate, encourage and help outstanding female science students pursue higher education;
(b) promote academic excellence, service and leadership; and
(c) promote gender equality in higher education in Ethiopia.
To date, the CGF has been funded by a handful of Dr. Gifawesen's family members and has provided an annual stipend to a limited number of female science students enrolled at the Addis Ababa University. We have committed to providing an annual stipend to these women through the length of their studies at Addis Ababa University.
On the right you will find a listing of the students receiving a CGF stipend as well as the standard CGF student assistance application form. CGF awardees are selected without regard to ethnicity or religion.
Our goal is to expand the stipend program to a wider number of students starting in 2014 and to continue to increase the stipend for existing beneficiaries as the cost of living continues to rise sharply in Ethiopia.
As a result, we are embarking on our first campaign to raise outside support for the CGF. CGF is now accepting donations from those interested in supporting our mission. CGF is a not-for-profit and tax-exempt foundation registered in the state of Alabama, USA.
